FAQ about Nice Parapente first flights
1. How long does a first paragliding experience near Nice last?
The duration of a first paragliding experience generally varies between 15 and 30 minutes of actual flying time. This time depends on the aerological conditions of the day and the site chosen (Gréolières, Gourdon or Roquebrune Cap Martin).
If conditions are excellent with good thermal lift, your instructor Pierrot or Pierre-Yves can extend the flight to give you an even more magical experience over the Côte d'Azur. Including the welcome, briefing, equipment and debriefing, allow around 1? to 2 hours on site.
The flight itself begins at take-off, where a few running steps are all it takes to get you airborne, and ends with a soft landing in a secure area.
2. Do I need to be in any particular physical condition to take a first paragliding lesson?
No, no particular physical condition is required for a first paragliding experience in Nice! This activity is accessible to everyone, from children aged 4 and over to senior citizens. You'll need to be able to run, and have no joint problems.
You simply need to be able to do a few running steps on take-off (your instructor will support you) and remain upright on landing. The rest of the time, you sit comfortably in the harness, as if in a suspended seat.
People with reduced mobility can also fly, depending on their situation - contact us directly to discuss the possibilities. Pregnant women are unfortunately not allowed to fly for safety reasons.
The maximum weight is generally 90-100 kg depending on conditions, but we can adapt the equipment. Pierrot and Pierre-Yves will be happy to advise you when you book.
3. When can I go paragliding in Nice? What's the best time of year?
The Mediterranean climate of the Alpes-Maritimes is ideal for first paragliding flights all year round ! That's one of the great advantages of flying near Nice.
The ideal season extends from late April to OctoberThe conditions are particularly favourable, with thermals allowing longer flights. The days are long and the temperatures pleasant.
Winter also offers some great flying opportunities, particularly at our Gréolières and Gourdon sites. Winter's anticyclonic days provide exceptional visibility over the Mediterranean and mild conditions for flying.
Flights generally take place in the morning or late afternoon, when the aerological conditions are optimal. Our instructors analyse the weather every day to offer you the best time and the most suitable site.

- Sunglasses (very useful when flying)
- Sun cream in summer
Do NOT bring :
- Objects in pockets that could fall out
- Flip-flops, sandals or open shoes (not permitted for safety reasons)
Provided by the school :
- Fifth wheel (your in-flight seat)
- Protective helmet
- All the safety equipment
If you would like to immortalise your flight, let us know when you book. Depending on the package, photos and videos may be available. Please do not bring your own phone or camera with you on the flight.
7. Is it possible to have a first paragliding experience if you are afraid of heights?
An excellent question! Vertigo is generally NOT a problem for a first paragliding experience, contrary to what you might think.
Why is this? Vertigo occurs when you have a fixed point of reference nearby (such as the edge of a precipice, a cliff or the top of a building). In paragliding, you are suspended in mid-air without a nearby reference point, which does not trigger the sensation of vertigo.
Many people who suffer from vertigo say that they never felt any discomfort during their tandem flight. Comfortably installed in your harness alongside Pierrot or Pierre-Yves, you simply enjoy the scenery and the sensation of gliding.
Our advice if you're worried:
- Tell your instructor at the briefing
- Start by looking at the distant landscape rather than directly below
- Concentrate on your sensations and the beauty of the Côte d'Azur
- Trust your instructor, who takes full charge of your flying
Most apprehensive people are pleasantly surprised by the serenity of the flight and even regret that the experience is over!
